Support for Veterans

Help Starts Here

At Heartland Workforce Solutions, we are dedicated to serving those who have served our country. All veterans are eligible for priority service, including those returning from active duty, those with disabilities, and those retiring from the military.

Veteran Services

Our veteran representative at the American Job Center can help you navigate the system and connect you to the programs that best meet your needs. You may qualify for assistance under the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) and be eligible for various programs and services, including:

  • Occupational Skills Training: Enhance your skills for better job opportunities.
  • On-the-Job Training and Apprenticeships: Gain practical experience while earning.
  • Paid and Unpaid Work Experience: Participate in internships and job shadowing to build your resume.
  • Supportive Services and Referrals: Receive assistance to overcome employment barriers.

Priority of Service

As a veteran or an eligible spouse, you are entitled to priority of service. This means you will receive precedence over non-veterans for employment, training, and placement services funded by the U.S. Department of Labor. Please identify yourself as a veteran upon arrival to ensure you receive this priority. Here’s how it works:

  • Immediate Assistance: Upon identifying yourself as a veteran or eligible spouse, you will be moved to the front of the line.
  • Needs Assessment: After assessing your needs, you will be directed to the individual who can best assist you.
  • Program Enrollment: You will receive priority for enrollment in qualified job training programs, which include workforce preparation, development, or delivery programs funded in whole or part by the U.S. Department of Labor.

If you have any questions on qualifications, contact us or visit the Heartland Workforce Solutions American Job Center.
